6th-8th Grade

Class Mission Statement (written by students):

We will work together to do our personal best, prepare for the future, and learn to live as Jesus taught us.

Cross Lutheran School

Our school-wide theme this year is THINK ABOUT IT!  In Philippians chapter 4, verse 8, Paul writes, “Finally beloved, whatever is true, whatever is commendable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is honorable, if anything has excellence or is worthy of praise, think about these things.”

The year-long theme for the Junior High classroom this school year is PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER! When you open up a puzzle box, you find many (sometimes thousands) of small, individual PIECES. The object of a puzzle is to fit all of the individual PIECES together to make a big picture. Every PIECE is needed and every PIECE fits.  Without even one of the pieces the puzzle would be incomplete.  Like puzzle PIECES, each member of our class is a unique individual with their own specialized skills, interests, and abilities.  All of individual PIECES (students) fit together to make something bigger and better (our class). As a class (and as a school) we work together to serve a great purpose: to love and serve God! “There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ… You are the body of Christ. Each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Cor. 12:12,27

This year we will be PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER as we study a variety of topics.  In Science we will begin the year by learning about how all of the PIECES in an ecosystem work together.  Later we will discover the smallest PIECES of plants and animals (cells) and how they fit together to make all of the living things on the planet!

In Social Studies we are studying the geography of the Western Hemisphere.  Geography has many PIECES, including landforms, climate, history, culture, and more. Geography PIECES many things together to help us understand our world.

In Language Arts students will be learning about the PIECES that make up sentences (parts of speech).

In Word Study, they will examine the PIECES at the beginning and end of words (prefixes and suffixes).

Our literary genre of focus this year in Reading will be mystery.  In order to solve mysteries, students will become detectives and PIECE together clues. By PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER they will figure out the puzzles!

We sure have a lot of PIECES to PUT TOGETHER!  Most importantly we want to focus on the PIECES in our theme verse this year and think about things that are TRUE, COMMENDABLE, JUST, PURE, PLEASING, HONORABLE, EXCELLENT, AND PRAISEWORTHY! When those PIECES are put together, what do we get? Jesus Christ.  We want the PIECES of our lives to come together to show a picture of Him, don’t we?
